Mitacs

Projects lasting at least 4 months (extensions available depending on needs)

Mitacs is a national non-profit organization that provides short-term funding for companies facing research challenges within the context of projects involving the development or commercialization of products.

The various programs offered by Mitacs are intended to enable companies to overcome these research challenges through partnerships with university professors. The funding that is offered can cover up to 55% of the cost of a project.

NSERC Alliance grants

Projects lasting between 1 and 5 years

For companies and organizations in the private or not-for-profit sector facing challenges related to natural sciences or engineering within the context of research and development projects, Alliance grants from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) offer funding ranging from $20 thousand to $1 million per year over a period of between 1 and 5 years.

Alliance grants are intended to enable companies to overcome their research challenges through partnerships with university professors. The funding that is offered covers the following:

  • 50% of the cost of a project for large organizations;
  • 66.7% of the cost of a project for organizations with less than 500 employees;
  • Up to 100% of the cost of a project for organizations in the public and not-for-profit sectors.
